Adventure Motorhomes NZ Rental Terms
This document contains a summary of some of the Rental Conditions. For full detailed Conditions refer to the Conditions schedule in the Rental Agreement which will be read and signed before you pick up your vehicle from Adventure Vans .
BOOKINGS CONFIRMATIONS AND PAYMENT
To confirm a reservation a booking deposit will be required. This can be paid by Visa or Mastercard. The remainder of your rental will be paid 30 days prior to collection of the vehicle, unless prior arrangements have been made.
CANCELLATION FEE
The initial deposit paid is non-refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply: Cancellations received more than 24 days prior to the date reservation will be refunded less a 3% administration fee. Reservations cancelled within the 10-24 day period incur a fee being 15% of rental value. Within 10 days 50% of hire will be charged. No shows 100% of hire will be charged.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of travel insurance. In many cases this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking.
CREDIT CARDS
If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. The following credit cards will be accepted: Visa Card, Mastercard, American Express, Diners.
RENTAL DURATION
When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental. When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.
- Minimum rental period is 7 days.
- Late pick up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
ONE-WAY RENTALS
One-way rentals are available between Auckland and Christchurch or vice versa and do not incur any additional costs
EXTRA DRIVER FEES
An extra driver fee per additional driver is required. DIESEL VEHICLE ROAD USERS CHARGE
Diesel Vehicles are subject to an extra road users' tax based on numbers of kilometres travelled within New Zealand. These come at a cost of NZ$59.00 per 1000kms, and 06 cents per km for additional kilometres. The cost of these are included as part of the "No Worries Pack" which is a compulsory option with every Adventure Vans rental.
BRANCH HOURS
Auckland: Daily from 8.00am to 5.00pm (We are only closed Christmas Day and New Years Day)
Christchurch: Daily from 8.00 to 5.00pm (We are only closed Christmas Day and New Years Day)
COLLECTION AND RETURN OF MOTORHOMES
Collection and return times are between 8.00am to 4.00pm daily.
Latest vehicle return time for both locations is 4.00pm.
Pick ups after branch hours may be available by prior arrangement.
Late returns will be charged on a per day basis.
Please make your own way to either our Auckland or Christchurch depots as we offer no shuttle services
Taxi services between the Airport and our depots at both Auckland and Christchurch are available for approx. NZ$40.00. Taxi ranks can be found at the front of the arrivals areas at both Auckland and Christchurch Airports. If making your way to one of our depots from the city centres, local taxi services will be the easiest way and will cost approx NZ$50.00. The reception desk at your accommodation property will be able to arrange this for you. The cost of transportation to and from our depots are the responsibility of the customer.
INSURANCE EXCESS / ROAD USER CHARGE OPTIONS
Our rates package includes our "No Worries Pack" which reduces the standard excess payable from NZ$5000 to NZ$250. There is a corresponding bond of NZ$250 which is taken as a credit card imprint only and only charged in the event of an accident.
The No Worries pack also covers Diesel Vehicle Road Users Tax which apply to all Diesel vehicles in New Zealand. These are normally charge at NZ$59.00 per 1000kms, and 06 cents per km part thereof.
Also included in the No Worries Pack: Camping table and outdoor chairs / Gas BBQ / Toilet Chemical / Starter pack.
EXCLUSIONS
1. Personal belongings are not covered. We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
2. All Excess Reduction is void if the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by willful conduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
3. The Hirer will be responsible for the cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged, regardless of the LDW (Loss and Damage Waiver) being taken.
4. The hirer will be responsible for the cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle.
5. Overhead and underbody damage, all damage above the level of the driver cabin and the underbody of the vehicle is the hirers liability for the full cost of repairs.
SECURITY DEPOSIT
A security deposit of NZ$350.00 is required on collection of vehicle to ensure the campervan is returned on the due date complete as taken, and in a clean condition. Vehicle’s returned in an un-clean condition will be charged a NZ$100.00 fee from the security deposit. Toilet and waste water tanks must be emptied on vehicle return or a NZ$150.00 fee will be charged from the security deposit. LPG gas bottles are given full on vehicle collection and are to be returned full or a fee of NZ$20.00 per bottle will be charged to the security deposit. All traffic fines will be charged against the security deposit with a NZ$150.00 handling/representation fee per fine. The security deposit will be cancelled on vehicle return provided the above conditions are met.
LICENCE
A full resident country drivers licence, held for a least one year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, an international drivers license is also required.
AGE RESTRICTIONS
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. A medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required for drivers over the age of 75.
LIVING EQUIPMENT
The Living Equipment (crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, linen, sleeping bags, pillows and towels) for all Motorhomes is included in the daily rental rate at no extra cost.
Charges for additional hire equipment (tables, chairs, umbrellas, baby seats) will be charged per vehicle rented.
CHANGE OF DROP OFF DESTINATION
If the hirer wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorization from the Reservations Centre in Auckland. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of NZ$150 will apply.
RENTAL EXTENSION
If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorization from the Reservations Centre in Auckland. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension.
Failure to obtain authorization will result in a fee of NZ$500 in addition to the daily rate. Adventure Vans allows a grace period of 24 hours before the hirer is liable for the late return fee.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS
Motorhomes can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well-maintained roads. No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook) and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula).
Adventure Vans reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
ON-ROAD ASSISTANCE (7AM to 8PM)
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Adventure Vans as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give Adventure Vans the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.
REPAIRS
Repairs up to NZ$100 may be effected without authorization and will be reimbursed. For amounts over NZ$100, Adventure Vans will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the hirer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.
CHANGE OF VEHICLE
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Adventure Vans reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.
VOLUNTARY DOWNGRADE
Should the hirer decide to take a smaller vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.
IMPORTANT
Adventure Vans reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
ANIMALS
No animals are permitted in our vehicles.
PERSONAL AND COMPANY CHEQUES
Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be paid to Adventure Vans 14 days prior to commencement of rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security deposit.
DISCLAIMER
Illustrations and text in any of our brochures or website are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rental may occur due to substitutions made by Adventure Vans or modifications and/or upgrades to the vehicle design made by the manufacturer.

We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
