Abel Rent a Car AU Rental Terms for travel between 01-Jan-2008 and 31-Dec-2008
Our standard rates include 250 kilometres per day of travel free (unless otherwise specified) , these free kilometres are cumulative (i.e. 7-day hire would give you 1750 klms of included use). Extra kilometres are charged at a rate of .22 cents per kilometre.
Requirements
Driver's Licences
Drivers are to be a minimum age of 21 years old and must hold a Current Open Australian, Overseas or International Drivers Licence.
Age
Drivers of hire vehicles must be 21 years old or older and those aged 21 to 24 are restricted to the types of vehicles they can hire. All drivers under the age of 25 pay a daily age surcharge.
Payment
At the time of car rental, please have your current driver's licence and credit card with you.
Before you drive away, you need to have the cost of the car hire plus a maximum of $330 pre-authorisation security bond available on your credit card.
We hold the bond as security through the rental period. After you return the hire vehicle - and if no further charges apply - the pre-authorisation charge will be automatically returned within 5-7 working days by your financial institution.
We accept Visa, Bankcard, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Card.
Inclusions and Extra Options
Collision Damage Liability Waiver
All of our rental vehicles are fully comprehensively insured. The hirer is given the benefit of this coverage subject to the conditions of vehicle hire.
There is a Standard Multi Vehicle Damage Liability of: $2750
This is included with all standard rates in the event of an accident with another vehicle.
However, we are able to offer you the option to reduce your Multi Vehicle Damage Liability to: $275
by paying a small additional fee of:
$18 per day (1-6 days), $15 per day (7-30 days), $10 per day (30 days+),
This Collision Damage Liability Waiver ("CDLW") is optional.
Total Protection Package
Upon accepting the Collision Damage Liability Waiver ("CDLW"), you will also have the option of taking out the Total Protection Package ("TPP"), which will in turn reduce your Single Vehicle Damage Liability and provide total peace of mind for as little as an additional $6 per day and aligning your Multi Vehicle Damage Liability and Single Vehicle Damage Liability at the reduced liability of $275.
This offer is not available to any commercial vehicles.
Hirers are advised that all overhead, undercarriage, water, hail damage, abuse, negligence, windscreen and tyre damage - however caused - is at the hirers risk and is not covered by Any Liability Damage Waivers - CDLW or TPP. Please note that insurance is void if the rental car or vehicle is driven on unsealed roads.
Administration Charges
The following administration charges will apply to your vehicle rental:
* A $330 administration fee is charged in addition to the Single Vehicle Damage Liability
* A $330 administration fee is charged in addition to the Multi Vehicle Damage Liability
* A $110 administration fee is charged in addition to any traffic infringements incurred by the hirer during the rental period.
Additional Driver
Additional drivers who are listed on the Rental Agreement under the Additional Drivers section (and have presented their current driver's licence at the time of collecting the hire vehicle) are protected under the Terms & Conditions of the Rental Agreement free of charge.
Child Restraints
Booster seats, baby seats if available are $5 per day or a maximum of $30 per rental, each.
Rental Duration
Each car rental day period is 24 hours.
Extra hours are calculated at 1/3 the daily rate until the daily rate is reached. Any options are calculated daily.
Refunds
There are no refunds for early returns of rental vehicles. Any change of plans, including requests to extend, must be notified to our office.
Cancellations/No Shows
We reserve the right to charge cancellation fees. During peak seasons this cancellation fee may equate to the total reservation value.
Fuel
Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel. We ask that you choose one of the methods below:
* Option One: Pay in advance for the fuel and bring the car back empty. Abel Rent a Car will fill the car at or sometimes below the current retail pump price. Regardless of how much fuel is left in the tank, credits will not be given for unused petrol.
* Option Two: If you aren't sure how far you'll be driving but plan to stop for petrol, don't pay Abel Rent a Car in advance for petrol and bring the car back full to avoid any refuelling service charge.
* Option Three: If you won't be using a full tank and don't have time to stop for petrol, pay us only for the petrol you use, based on the renting location's per-litre refuelling service charge. Abel Rent a Car customer service representatives can tell you what the renting location's refuelling service charge is when you pick up your hire car.
Breakdown
All vehicles are covered by 24-hour Roadside Assistance. However, Roadside Assistance does not cover non-mechanical defects such as lost keys, keys locked in the vehicle, a flat battery due to lights being left on etc. Costs charged to Abel Rent A Car will be on-charged to the vehicle renter.
Street Directory
All Abel Rent A Car vehicles are supplied with street directories free of charge.
Free Airport Transfers
Regular shuttle services are available from our airport location in accordance with our hours of operation. When you return your vehicle, please allow adequate time for to check-in your hire car and transfer to the airport.
Discount Vouchers
Discount vouchers are not accepted on web rates or online specials.

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
Abel Rent a Car AU Insurance
Rental Security Bonds:
At Abel we have a rental security deposit bond of either $2750. This can be reduced to $275 with the purchase of a Total Protection package. The rental security bond is processed on the renters Credit Card at the time of the rental vehicle collection and is released 7 days after the safe return of the rental vehicle. (No money is removed from your account).
Your Damage Liability Multi Vehicle:
All vehicle's have a standard $2750 liability. This liability applies to all drivers 25 years and over.
Note: Drivers must be 21 years of age or older.
Note: Single Vehicle Damage not covered by Insurance.
Liability Wavier:
To minimize your risk, we offer a Total Protection Package to reduce you liability in the event of a accident.
